Winemaking Notes

The 2017Quarry Road Pinot Noir spent 16 months in French oak barrels; 30% of which were new. Another 10% were aged in new medium plus toast barrels, to encourage the fruitiness of the wine to come through and to round out the strong tannins. Earthy notes are accompanied by aromas of cedar and cranberry. Firm yet approachable tannins on the tongue are followed by wild blueberry and black currant leaf.

Growing Conditions

Quarry Road Estate vineyard. Tight planting on mixed limestone and clay soil. Viticultural practices included vertical shoot positioning, shoot thinning, cluster thinning, hand leaf removal and hand harvest. Certified organic & biodynamic.

Tasting Notes
All prices include Ontario bottle deposits; $0.20 for bottles of 750 mL and $0.10 for bottles of 375 mL and less.

Purchased in 2005, Quarry Road is Tawse’s second vineyard. Pinot Noir was planted in 2007 with a diverse mix of Dijon clones. Dark cherry aromas are infused with a smoky, sweet spice element from partial ageing in new barriques. Taut and linear on the palate, where crunchy fruit is accented by clove. Soft, fine-boned tannins firm up on the finish. Drinking Window 2020 - 2023
