This is a terrific vintage for the Limestone Ridge North riesling, perfumed with delicate green apple and apple blossom, lime, lemongrass and ginger in a highly inviting guise. The palate reflects an off-dry, kabinett style with low alcohol, 10% declared, and a pinch of sugar balanced by high but not sour acids. There's still a notable whiff of sulphur - the wine was built to age at least mid-term - so I'd suggest carafing if serving now, or better yet, tuck in the cellar for a year or two before revisiting.
The northern section of this stony stipulating vineyard is the leaner of the two and yet 2016 is the vintage to bring juicy and unctuous balance. It’s also a matter of nearly twenty year-old vines that regale in the warmth and the generosity of the vintage. When all falls into place as it does with the peach juicy flavours and lime dousing of this riesling, well that’s when the Tawse idiom tangles and teases with old country acumen. Choose your German region but Mosel comes first to mind. Looking forward to seeing the secondary character coming out of this wine because the fruit and the stuffing are up to the promise and the task.
