- Winemaking Notes
Planted in 1998 on mixed limestone and clay soils, the Quarry Road estate vineyard is farmed organically and biodynamically and produces balanced wines with unique minerality. 2013 was a cool and wet growing season which resulted in fresh, crisp and delicate wines. Barrel-fermented with indigenous yeast and
aged in French Oak, this wine displays notes of nectarine, ripe peach, vanilla sugar and toasted nuts. The palate displays flavours of vanilla, white grapefruit, and crisp minerality. Hints of wet stone are detected on the long finish.
- Growing Conditions
From the 18-year old vines of Quarry Road estate vineyard, farmed organically and biodynamically. Viticultural practices included vertical shoot positioning, shoot thinning, cluster thinning, hand leaf removal and hand harvest.
- Food Pairing
With its mineral nature in tandem with the vanilla and fruit notes make this medium-bodied wine the perfect companion for seafood
pasta with mussels, shrimp and scallops, roast chicken with herb butter or butternut squash risotto.

This is a very complex, refined yet nervy chardonnay brimming with wet stone aromas and flavours. The nose is lifted and complex with peat smoke, nutmeg, lemon-lime, pear, butterscotch and vaguely toasty notes. It's medium-full bodied, nicely in-filled yet sleek with a juicy tart-edged finish. There is a touch of malo-yoghurt/butter. Intense, with excellent length.
Bright straw. A whiff of vanillin oak complements bright citrus, banana and floral aromas. Steely, juicy and fresh, with very pure flavors of crisp citrus and banana, and with less of an oaky presence than the nose suggests. Nicely focused mineral and orchard fruit elements linger on the multilayered finish. A cooler, wetter year (the sort of year Pender likes best for Chardonnay); the grapes were picked in mid-October.
