Winemakers Comments
Pale straw in colour, this chardonnay has an appealing nose of lemon zest, stoney minerality, and hints of oak. It follows through with a rich palate of lemony citrus, crisp green apple, and a pleasant, pronounced minerality. Long, pleasing finish with lingering citrus zest, wet stone and citrus fruit.
Food Pairings
Try iced shrimp cocktail or raw oysters. This wine begs for vegetarian cuisine of all kinds like roasted vegetable salad and pasta. It is perfect for baked and fried fish, especially salmon. Serve it with chicken, or your turkey dinner….especially the stuffing!
Reviews & Accolades
“The top chardonnay from Tawse in 2010 in my view (and the best value), the Quarry Road vineyard has the edge in minerality, cut and class over the rest of the (excellent) range, the result of my informal blind tasting. This vineyard in the Vinemount Ridge appellation on top of the Escarpment seems to have weathered the warm conditions of 2010 extremely well, yielding a chardonnay with plenty of incisive acidity and structure, with well defined citrus and pear/nectarine flavors and no small measure of chalky limestone minerality. Wood notes are subtle and well integrated. It may not have quite the class of the brilliant 2009 vintage, but I'd say this is certainly one of the best Niagara chardonnays of 2010. Tasted August 2012.”
