VQA Vinemount Ridge
Organic and Biodynamic
Quarry Road Vineyard, Limestone/ Clay soil, Vertical shoot positioning, Cane style pruning, Shoot thinned, Cluster thinned, Leaf thinned, Hand harvested, Organic and Biodynamic farming practice.
The Quarry Road Vineyard Riesling is certified organic and biodynamic. The soil and limestone under this vineyard result in a mineral character. 2012 was hot and dry, yielding great ripeness. The result is a brilliant Riesling with a nose of concentrated citrus fruit, including juicy white grapefruit and hints of lime zest. There is also an evident floral character, and limestone minerality is pronounced. On the palate it is slightly off-dry, with luscious, ripe citrus, subtle tropical notes, and mouth watering acidity. Great length featuring lingering fruit, citrus zest, and stoney minerality.
Reviews and Accolades;
Here's a first look at 2012, a vintage that had Ontario vintners doing cartwheels. And if the fruit and acid balance of this wine is any indication - the celebration is warranted. There is a fine balance of fresh Mac apple fruit, minerality and herbal character, with some youthful yeastiness that should blow off. It's light, lean and very fresh, but maintains a sense of delicacy. The kiss of sweetness is terrific too. Excellent length. Best 2014 to 2018 or longer (I prefer aged rieslings) David Lawrason
This Riesling is extremely flexible as a food wine. It is a great cheese wine. Try an old cheddar, or cheese fondue. The pronounced acidity makes it a very good companion for salads with vinaigrette dressing. Perfect with other early courses, including salads of all kinds, shrimp and oysters, and marinated vegetables. Also perfect for seafood dishes including lobster, shrimp, crab, and white fish. Try pasta tossed with olive oil, fresh herbs, and grilled seafood.
